TOPEKA — The Kansas State Board of Education will conduct a public hearing at 9:05 a.m., or as soon thereafter as possible, on Wednesday, July 13, in the board room in Landon State Office Building, 900 S.W. Jackson St., Suite 102, Topeka, KS, to consider proposed changes to the Kansas State High School Activities Association’s Rule 5 – classification of senior high schools.
The purpose of the proposed rule change is to apply an enrollment multiplier factor when determining classification numbers of private schools. Factors for determining the multiplier include school location, socio-economic status, and championship factor. A copy of the proposed rule change may be obtained by contacting the Secretary to the Kansas State Board of Education at the address above prior to the date of the hearing or by email to [email protected].
All interested persons will be given a reasonable opportunity at the hearing to present their views or arguments, either orally or in writing, in regard to the proposed rule. The hearing shall be conducted in compliance with the public hearing procedures of the State Board of Education.
All interested parties wishing to give oral testimony during the hearing must register with the Secretary of the Kansas State Board of Education by email to [email protected] or by letter to the address given above. Registrations must be received no later than 5 p.m., Monday, July 11. When requesting to speak, please include the following information:
1. Speaker’s name.
2. Organization represented, if any.
3. Identify whether the testimony is as a Proponent, Opponent or Neutral regarding the proposed rule change.
Those who wish to submit written testimony may do so by mailing to the address or email address given above. All written testimony must be received no alter than 5 p.m. Monday, July 11.
