Reno County case count up to 199, still more than half from prison

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Sunday's updated numbers show another bounce in COVID-19 case count for Reno County.

As of Sunday afternoon, 199 cases of COVID-19 were active in Reno County, with 249 recovered and one death since the beginning of the pandemic.

The largest cluster of active cases are still from the Hutchinson Correctional Facility, with over 100 cases still active. There are also three active cases remaining from a cluster at a meatpacking plant, three from a long-term care facility and seven from a religious gathering, so 115 of the 199 active cases are from cluster activity, which leaves 84 where the source of spread is either unknown or small enough not to qualify as a cluster.

The positive test rate among the community in Reno County is 6.66%, with the overall positive test rate at 8.1%. 5,545 total tests have been administered with 5,096 negative. 8.82% of the population has been tested.

Five cases are currently in the hospital, with four intubated. There have been 28 total hospitalizations since the beginning of the pandemic, with 17 of those requiring ICU treatment.
