SEDGWICK COUNTY — More details are available in the case of a Hutchinson woman charged in the death of a man who fell from the hood of a moving car.
Ashley Corley, 36, Hutchinson, is charged with first-degree murder, leaving the scene of an accident and a misdemeanor count of driving while license suspended or canceled, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
Police arrested Corley on Saturday in connection with a traffic fatality that occurred Friday in the 3000 block of West 9th Street in Wichita.
Just before 8 a.m., police responded to 9th Street North and St. Paul in Wichita where they found 41-year-old Rigoberto Rivas in the street. He had head injuries and died at a local hospital, according to Officer Chad Ditch.
Investigators learned that Rivas and Corley were seen running toward a gray car parked on the curb at 9th Street. Corley allegedly entered the vehicle and drove away at a high rate of speed with Rivas on the hood. The car swerved and Rivas fell from the car.
A follow-up investigation led officers to believe the car was stolen.
Police investigators arrested Corley in Hutchison, transported her back to Wichita and booked her into the Sedgwick County Jail.
On October 31, attorneys in the case are scheduled to discuss future dates with Judge Jeffrey Syrios, according to the district attorney's office. Corley remains jailed on $500,000 bond.
