Cheney Diamond Dawgs outlast Colorado Cyclones

WICHITA, Kan. - The Cheney, KS Diamond Dawgs advanced in the 2020 NBC World Series powered by Evergy with a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Cyclones on Tuesday at Eck Stadium.

Andrew Stewart led the Diamond Dawgs with two hits in three at-bats while Blake Mattey came up with three hits and two RBIs for the Cyclones.

The Diamond Dawgs struck first in the bottom of the third inning following two singles, scoring two runs off a sacrifice fly by Corrigan Bartlett. A bases-loaded hit by pitch allowed the Cyclones to score a run in the top of the fourth inning, but the Diamond Dawgs scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend its lead 5-1.

The Cyclones managed to score two more runs in the top of the eighth inning, but the Diamond Dawgs forced a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the ninth to seal the victory.

The Diamond Dawgs will play the winner between Lonestar, TX and the Hays, KS Larks on Thursday in Wichita. The Cyclones will play the Rose Hill, KS Sluggers at 6 p.m. in Wichita.
