NICKERSON, Kan. — The Nickerson USD 309 School Board approved an extended Christmas break for students during Monday’s regular meeting.

With the change, Christmas break will start Monday, Dec. 21, adding three days. Any snow days would then be remote learning days. The break will give students and staff two full weeks of vacation.

Also Monday, the board approved restrictions for winter sports activities. The restrictions will be much the same as they are for fall sports. No spectators will be allowed in middle school activities and all high school events will provide two tickets per athlete and cheerleader. There will be no pep band, no concession stands and no Panther Pride gear for sale.

And the Board approved spending funds to make improvements to the Nickerson City Park softball field so the teams have a local area to practice.
