LINDSBORG — Tyrone Carter will lead the Bethany Swedes Football team for the rest of the 2020 season. Carter will replace Curran White who was fired earlier this week.

Tyrone Carter is a familiar presence with the Bethany football community. Coach Carter previously served as the Offensive Line Coach at Bethany from 2017-2018. His previous coaching experience began in 2008 and he has most recently worked at the University of Saint Mary as an Offensive Line Coach/Run Game Coordinator.

"I am delighted that Coach Carter is rejoining the Bethany team. I know from experience that he is a student-centered leader. One of his ideas, the Ascension Program, has helped us retain conditionally admitted students at significantly higher rates compared to students who have not had an opportunity to participate in this program. This is a true collaboration between athletics and academics. We look forward to more opportunities like these now that Coach Carter has rejoined our team,” said Dr. Elizabeth Mauch, President of Bethany College.

Carter is currently working on his D.B.A. (Doctor of Business Administration) at Felician University. He received a BS in Sports Management from the University of Phoenix where he also received his Masters in Management. Prior to the University of Phoenix, Carter attended Fresno State University where he was a member of the football team as a defensive lineman. During his time at Fresno State, Carter was a member of the Bulldogs’ Western Athletic Conference co-championship team.

"We are excited to welcome Tyrone Carter back to Bethany College as our Interim Head Football Coach. He is committed not only to our student-athletes both academically and athletically, but also to helping student-athletes grow as successful citizens with integrity and character. His professional experience in academics and athletics will provide added value to Bethany College and the community.” Dean of Athletics Laura Moreno

I’m happy to be here with these great young men. Some of whom I helped recruit and some of whom are new to me. I’m looking forward to helping them earn their college degrees, be great citizens, and chase championships,” said Coach Carter.

Bethany College, established by Swedish Lutheran immigrants in 1881, is a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
