HUTCHINSON, Kan. — No. 21 Wallace State upset No. 11 Lee College in the first round of the tournament on Monday but came up short Tuesday afternoon against the Indian Hills CC Warriors.
No.5 Indian Hills CC beat Wallace State 63-58. Sophomore forward Trevion LaBeaux led the Warriors with 15 points. Freshman guard Jalen Carruth led the Wallace State Lions with 15 points.
Wallace State led Indian Hills 26-18 at halftime. At about the 12:22 mark in the second, sophomore guard Braden Sparks hit a 3-point jumper to make it a tie game for Indian Hills (37-37). Wallace State took back the lead only for Indian Hills to tie it up again (41-41) at the 9:38 mark.
Baskets and leads were changed back and forth a few more times but Indian Hills started to put the game away with about four minutes left to go.
Wallace State's sophomore guard Jalen Anglin made a layup with about 32 seconds left on the clock (62-58). This is the closest the Lions got to mounting a comeback.
Indian Hills made it a 63-58 game on a made free throw. Freshman guard Jimmie Williams shot three free throws with seconds remaining but missed all three of them.
Indian Hills will meet No. 13 Odessa College on Wednesday, March 27 in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m.
