HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Sheriff's Office said on social media Friday that Detective Sergeant Matt Franklin, graduated from the Law Enforcement Leadership Academy (LELA) Command School Thursday, Dec. 5.

The Law Enforcement Leadership Academy (LELA) Command School launched in 2013 as a collaboration between the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) and the KU Public Management Center in response to the need for statewide command and executive-level leadership training.

The LELA Command School is an 11-month, cohort-based program designed to equip commanders and chief executives with the competencies and skills needed for effective leadership.

Command School participants are required to complete 300 contact-hours of in-person and on-line training in topics including leadership development, executive decision-making, strategic planning and budgeting, performance management, emotional intelligence and more.

Each participant must complete a series of portfolio assignments, and an individual development plan, along with a final capstone project designed to address a significant problem or challenge they have identified within their organization or community.
