HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The basic framework of the City of Hutchinson budget appears to have been laid at its meeting this past Thursday. There are several points that will be part of the council's discussion in a couple of weeks at its next work session.
"We want to target a $5 million ending balance or slightly under," said Director of Finance Angela Richard. "We are going to discuss an engineering tech position. We are going to look at the fire station and the bond payments and how we can structure those, either over a longer time frame or with bonding in different years. I have research to do on the capital projects for ARPA."
It appeared to be the position of the council that they would do what most councils do in most years, which is make an effort to hold the mill levy constant, rather than trying to reduce the mill levy and collect the same amount of revenue, which was the purpose of the new revenue neutral rate legislation.
The next budget meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6th.
