SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal accident have identified the victim as 22-year-old Malik Hayden of Wichita.

Just after 8:00 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to a single-vehicle accident at South Seneca Street and West Greenfield Street in Wichita, according to officer Kevin Wheeler.

Upon arrival, officers located the driver, Hayden, who was unresponsive in a Chevy Malibu.  Fire and EMS provided life-saving measures, but Hayden was pronounced deceased at the scene.

EMS transported a 23-year-old female passenger to a local hospital for treatment. She remains hospitalized, according to Wheeler.

The investigation reveals that Hayden was traveling north on Seneca, when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a curb, and crashed into a tree.

Hayden was not wearing a seatbelt, according to Wheeler. The accident is the 12th fatality accident in Wichita in 2020.
