Reno County announces first death attributable to COVID-19 Wednesday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Health Department confirms that a local resident with COVID-19 died on July 22, 2020 while hospitalized in Hutchinson.

Out of respect and privacy for the family, the Reno County Health Department will not release any further information regarding this patient.

One hundred and thirty-five previously confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Reno County have recovered from their illness and are no longer considered contagious per disease investigation guidelines furnished by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

There are thirty-two active cases that are being investigated to establish isolation requirements and identify close contacts so that appropriate quarantine requirements can be implemented.

Currently Reno County has ran 3,854 tests with 3,687 negatives for a positive case rate of 4.33%. A total of 6.13% of Reno County has been tested thus far.

Continue good hygiene with frequent hand washing, proper respiratory etiquette such as coughing and sneezing into your elbow bend, wearing a mask when going out in public, limiting handshakes and physical contact. Stay home if you are feeling ill and call your primary care physician to discuss your symptoms.
