GOODLAND, Kan. – Northwest Tech shot 72.4 percent from the floor in the second half and overtime to rally and stun the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team on Wednesday night.

The Blue Dragons lost to Northwest Tech for the first time in seven meetings, dropping a 105-102 overtime decision at Max Jones Fieldhouse.

Hutchinson drops to 17-7 overall and 8-7 in the Jayhawk West. Hutchinson is now 0-3 in overtime games this season. Northwest Tech improves to 4-18 and 2-13, winning its second-straight game after losing 13 in a row.

The Blue Dragons led 43-25 with 4:13 remaining in the first half. That lead was still 50-40 at halftime, but Northwest Tech shot better than 51 percent in the opening half, which turned out to be a precursor of the remainder of the game.

The Mavericks shot a blistering 70.8 percent (17 of 24) in the second half and went 4 of 5 in overtime, nailing 3 of 3 3-pointers. The Blue Dragons shot 60 percent in the first half, but dropped to 43.3 percent in the second as the Mavericks outscored Hutchinson 49-39 in the period.

Ian Hardy did the damage for Tech in the second half, scoring 18 points in the second stanza. His basket with 4 seconds remaining in regulation gave Northwest Tech an 89-87 lead. The Blue Dragons countered by getting&nbsp;<a href="http://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2019-20/bios/baker_josh_xj07">Josh Baker</a>&nbsp;the ball at the top of the key and he drove to score at the buzzer and knot the game at 89-all.

The Mavericks got a huge left from Reece Warren in overtime, who hit three huge treys in the extra session. His third 3-pointer of overtime gave Tech a 101-98 lead with 45 seconds left to play. Hutchinson missed three key free throws in the final 2 minutes of overtime and couldn't overcome Tech's sizzling shooting in the extra period.

Baker finished with 20 points, his fifth 20-point game of the season. Northwest Tech became the first Blue Dragon opponent to shoot 60 percent in a game since Belleville Community College in 1990. Tech finished the game at 62.5 percent (34 of 56, going 11 of 21 from 3-point range and 24 of 36 from the free-throw line. Tech had 21 turnovers to Hutchinson's 10.

Hardy finished with 21 points to lead the Mavericks. Warren hit 5 of 7 3-pointers and finished with 19 points. Pierles Brown had 15 points, C.J. Rosser had 14 points and Keyshawn Kennedy had 11 points.

With the game tied at 17-all in the first half, the Blue Dragons exploded for a 26-8 run over a span of 8 minutes, 12 seconds to lead 43-25 after a Kuath free throw with 4:13 to play. Tech cut that deficit to nine before Brown nailed a 3-pointer with 1:11 to play. Tech scored the final points of the half and Hutchinson led 50-40.

That lead disappeared in the first 7 minutes of the second half as the Mavericks outscored Hutch 19-10 to start the half and take a 60-59 lead on a Brown 3-pointer with 13:07 to play.

Blue Dragons stunned by Mavericks in overtime

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Pete Rose again asked Major League Baseball to end his lifetime ban, saying the penalty is unfair compared with discipline for steroids use and electronic sign stealing.

Rose’s lawyers submitted the application Wednesday to baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred, who in December 2015 denied the previous request by the career hits leader.

“The time has come to recognize that Mr. Rose’s penalty has become grossly disproportionate relative to Major League Baseball’s treatment of severe wrongdoing by ownership, management and players,” the petition said.

Rose agreed to the lifetime ban in August 1989 after an investigation for MLB by lawyer John Dowd found that Rose placed numerous bets on the Cincinnati Reds to win from 1985-87 while playing for and managing the team.

“There has never been any allegation that Mr. Rose’s misconduct was intended to gain a competitive advantage over other teams,” stated the petition, which was first reported by ESPN. “When it comes to subsequent violations of Major League Baseball rules — namely steroid use and electronic sign stealing — this is clearly not the case. They have intentionally and dramatically affected the results of plays and games, including the outcomes of two consecutive World Series. These acts manifestly and deliberately violate the spirit and letter of the rules.”

Rose, who turns 79 in April, asked to meet with Manfred, who in his 2015 denial wrote that the 17-time All-Star had “not presented credible evidence of a reconfigured life either by an honest acceptance by him of his wrongdoing, so clearly established in the Dowd Report, or by a rigorous, self-aware and sustained program of avoidance by him of all the circumstances that led to his permanent ineligibility.”

Rose cited the joint drug agreement between MLB and the players’ association, which calls for 80-game suspensions for first offenders for performance-enhancing drugs, 162-game bans for second offenders and lifetime bans for thirds penalties with a chance for reinstatement. Manfred reinstated reliever Jenrry Mejia, the only player disciplined three times for PEDs under the major league drug program.

Rose also referenced Manfred’s decision on Jan. 13 to suspend Houston manager AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow for one season for their role in the Astros’ use of electronics to steal catchers’ signs in 2017 and 2018 but to not discipline players.

“Proportionality has long been the governing norm when Major League Baseball commissioners have assessed discipline,” the petition said. “That guiding principle has not changed, but Major League Baseball’s reactions to potential threats to the integrity of the game have greatly evolved since Mr. Rose’s conduct resulted in a lifetime ban from the game in 1989, and more particularly since his 2015 petition for reinstatement.”

Rose also asked baseball’s Hall of Fame to remove the prohibition adopted by the Hall’s board of directors in 1991 to prohibit players on the permanently ineligible list from appearing on the Hall ballot of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.

Rose’s 20-page petition was submitted by his lawyer, Ray Genco, and three law professors: Mark D. Rosenbaum (UC Irvine, Erwin Chemerinsky (California) and Evan Caminker (Michigan).

Rose also applied for reinstatement in September 1997 and met with Commissioner Bud Selig in November 2002, but Selig never ruled on Rose’s request.

Tied at halftime with the Mavericks, the No. 6-ranked Blue Dragons started the second half fast and defeated the Mavericks 73-53 in a Jayhawk West matchup at Max Jones Fieldhouse, Hutchinson's eighth-consecutive victory.

The Blue Dragons improve to 22-2 and remain tied for first place in the Jayhawk West with Seward County at 14-1. Hutchinson plays host to Garden City at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Sports Arena. Northwest Tech falls to 8-15, 4-11.

The Blue Dragons led 30-20 with 4:24 remaining in the second quarter. Blue Dragon Woman pull away in 2nd half to topple tech

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Hundreds of thousands of Kansas City Chiefs fans braved sub-freezing wind chills on Wednesday to celebrate the team’s first Super Bowl victory in 50 years, and if Coach Andy Reid is to be believed, they’ll be back for an encore next year.

Fans lined the 2-mile (3.2-kilometer) parade route to thank their football heroes for bringing the Lombardi Trophy back to Kansas City and ending a Super Bowl drought that began after the Chiefs won Super Bowl IV in 1970.

Reid thanked the fans for their continued support and for attending the parade.

“Next year, we’re coming right back here,” Reid said in a brief speech. “One more time baby, one more time.”

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Super Bowl MVP who has captured the fans’ devotion in only his third NFL season, struggled with a strained voice but said the championship fulfilled two goals he set when he became the team’s starter.

First, he said, he wanted to bring the Lamar Hunt trophy for winning the AFC championship back to Kansas City. The late Lamar Hunt and the Hunt family founded the team as the Dallas Texans in 1960 before moving the team to Kansas City in 1963 and changing the name.

“The second most important thing I wanted to do was get the Lombardi Trophy for the greatest coach of all time, Andy Reid,” he said.

Hunt’s son, Clark Hunt, said his father told him before he died in 2006 that the parade and celebration after the 1970 Super Bowl was the best day of his life because of the joy of the fans.

“Thank you for giving my dad and I some the best days of our lives,” he told the fans. “We love you.”

Tyreek Hill, the speedster wide receiver, also promised fans the team would be back for more Super Bowl parades. He told the fans that their support and love fueled the team’s success.

“That’s what makes us ball everyday,” Hill said. “Get your tickets, you are going to be in this same spot next year.”

During the parade, several players, including Chris Jones, Tyrann Mathieu and Travis Kelce, got off their double-decker buses to high-five fans and dance down the street. Reid left his bus to show The Lombardi Trophy to fans along the route. Other players sprayed fans with champagne and some, including Mahomes, chugged beer. At one point, Mahomes was seen pouring a beer from the top of a double-decker bus into the mouth of Kelce, who was in the street.

The event was nearly marred about three hours before the parade began, when an impaired driver broke through a barrier and sped along the parade route. Stop Sticks were thrown and patrol vehicles put the car into a forced spin, stopping it near a crowd of fans. The driver and another person were arrested at gunpoint, according to officials and video footage of the incident.

No one was injured. Police said in a news release the driver is under investigation for impairment. No weapons were found in the vehicle and there were no indications of terrorist activity, said police, who were trying to determine the suspect’s motive.

Mayor Quinton Lucas told WDAF-TV he was proud of the quick response of officers, who were cheered by fans who witnessed the incident.

“We have even more heroes to cheer today,” Lucas said.

Some fans slept overnight and others began arriving in downtown Kansas City in the early hours Wednesday to reserve choice viewing spots.

“This is so awesome,” said Shauntel Lyons, 40, of Kansas City, who was a Chiefs cheerleader from 2003 to 2005. “I learned so many great lessons from my time with the team. To see them bring home that trophy after 50 years is so gratifying. I’m just glad to be part of it.”

Fans bundled up for chilly conditions but the forecast for 2 to 3 inches of snow did not materialize, with only light snow falling intermittently.

Wind chills in the teens didn’t deter fans like Dana Reynolds, of Holt, who has been a Chiefs fan for more than 30 years. She and others arrived at 5 a.m. and were taking shelter under a canopy, complete with electric hand warmers, food and everything needed to survive the hours-long wait.

“We want to celebrate the Chiefs season and bring the city together,” she said. “It’s been worth the wait. What Andy Reid and this team have done for the city is amazing.”

The Kansas Legislature took the day off to celebrate and their Missouri counterparts scheduled a light workday. Many area businesses also planned to close or open on a reduced schedule. At Children’s Mercy Kansas City, the emergency room at the main downtown hospital was open, but appointments and some surgeries were rescheduled or moved.

Andy Reid tells parade-goers Chiefs will win again next year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- World Champion Kansas City Chief's Head Coach Andy Reid fielded media questions Tuesday. Following are his comments.

OPENING STATEMENT:&nbsp;"No injuries&nbsp;(laughter). That's a good thing. I'm so happy for the city of Kansas City. What a great thing this is. The support we've had all year has been phenomenal, at home and on the road. It was no different there. For Patrick (Mahomes, it was no different at Disney World. It was a beautiful thing. The Hunt Family, what can you say? They've been phenomenal to work for. Clark (Hunt, obviously, following in his father's footsteps, but then even taking it up a notch and keeping it as one of the top organizations, and now the top organization, in the National Football League. The entire organization, and the job that everybody did, there are so many people that don't get recognized throughout the building. It was great to see them and the smiles on their faces for all of the hard work that they put in. The coaches and players, my hat goes off to them for the effort that they've put in and the resiliency they've had throughout the year. Those highs and these lows throughout a season, they powered through those. They never asked why. They were just so unsung that way. From a coach's standpoint, a real pleasure to work with. All-in-all, a good day. Love standing here with this result. It's a beautiful thing for a lot of people. Anyways, time's yours."

Q:&nbsp;Have you gone back and watched the game yet?

REID:&nbsp;"No. Today, I got in early and worked – I try to give the coaches and the players an offseason calendar, so that they know where they're going and what to expect for the next however many months. That takes a little bit of time. (Senior Assistant to the Head Coach) Porter (Ellett) and myself did that. Didn't have time to look at the game. I will, but I haven't had a chance to look at it. Then, we met with the players. Met with every player and talked to them. They had their exit physicals and then we got them out of here – until tomorrow."

Q:&nbsp;How different was it conducting those exit interviews after a Super Bowl win, compared to past seasons when those interviews were conducted following a loss?

REID:&nbsp;"It's positive. Listen, there are challenges ahead. The fact that once you're there, you want to go again, how do you go about that when expectations are extremely high? At the same time, enjoying what you've accomplished. There's a fine balance there. We talked about that, what each person needed to do to up their game and what they did well. Everybody was positive, to answer your question in a roundabout way – which this team has been. They've been very humble that way."

Q:&nbsp;Prior to the game, did you know what the message that you wanted to convey to the team today was going to be, whether you won or lost the game?

REID:&nbsp;"No. I didn't plan it either way. I know this sounds redundant here, but I go in, focus in and put all of my energy into what it is going to take to win the game. My coaches do the same thing and the players do the same thing. Then, you go from the emotion of it after that. Like I said, I got in early, so I had some time before I met with them today to think through everything. I knew what I wanted when I got up there. Didn't sound too foolish, right? Again, there are challenges. You have to remain humble and work hard. Those are the primary things. That's what this team did. You have to be able to do that even after you kiss the Lombardi Trophy?"

Q:&nbsp;How soon did the turn to next season click with you, or has that not happened yet?

REID:&nbsp;"I ended up saying it right afterwards, so I guess it clicked in pretty quick. Once you've been there and experienced it, you want to go back. I was lucky enough, when I was younger and coaching in Green Bay, that I went to a couple of these. It's great when you win. But there's an urgency that you feel to get back. You have to step back and relax for a minute, and then it's time to go. You'll be everybody's best game when you win that."

Q:&nbsp;When you were an assistant with the Packers, what do you remember the offseason being like after winning the Super Bowl, before ultimately losing in the Super Bowl the next season?

REID:&nbsp;"We lost a couple of the leaders on our team. That was one thing. We got banged up a little bit, that was another thing. We played a good team. We were favored in the game. We went up immediately, on the first drive, and then we weren't able to hold the lead."

Q:&nbsp;What was the actual offseason like before that season?

REID:&nbsp;"It's a tough road. That's a tough road. It's tough to get there anyways. It takes a special mindset to get there."

Q:&nbsp;You're answering from a team standpoint. In your perspective, how is this offseason going to be different for you personally?

REID:&nbsp;"I don't know that, right?&nbsp;(laughter)&nbsp;I know that I'm going to work hard. I'm in this building a lot, unlike the players that are out there among everybody. I think it is a lot easier for me or one of the coaches to stay focused because we spend so much time here. That part won't change. I'm not going to change. I've been doing it a long time. I'm not going to change that part."

Q:&nbsp;You've mentioned about how your mentors belong in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Why is that honor so important for you? What's so special about achieving that?

REID:&nbsp;"My mind doesn't go there. I'm humbled by all of that stuff, but that's not where I go. Whether we win or lose, I don't think of it that way. I always tell you that each team has its own personality and you work with that – that's the part that I enjoy, watching teams grow and the relationships that you develop. I don't think much past that about what goes in the future. That's out of my hands. I try to control what I can control, and that's trying to get us to be better as a team."

Q:&nbsp;In October of 2015, you saw the city celebrate the Royals and their parade, what do you remember of that spectacle?

REID:&nbsp;“It was unbelievable. Brett Veach and I joke about this all the time, but we go to Philadelphia and boom, Philly wins it. We come here and boom, the Royals win it and I’m going dog gone, let’s go (laughter). What a celebration. It was phenomenal. I can’t wait until tomorrow. I know it’s going to be cold and all that but your juices are going and everybody in the city going, I mean you’re talking over a million people. The schools are closed and business are closed. Let’s go. Let’s enjoy it. It took us 50 years to get here, let’s go. Let’s go. Keep the city intact&nbsp;(laughter). Let’s not ruin what we got but let’s enjoy the heck out of it.”

Q:&nbsp;You went to Q39 last night, what was the reaction by people with you being back in Kansas City for the first time as a champion?

REID:&nbsp;“There’s not a barbeque place first of all that I don’t like here. I mean I haven’t met one burnt end or rib that I haven’t liked. Listen, we went to Q39 and I had a craving for burnt ends, I wasn’t joking. I didn’t want my wife or myself cooking last night so my daughter, my sister-in-law and my wife and I went to Q39. We got some burnt ends and straws, you know those onion straws, a little mac and cheese and a diet coke to chase it. The fans were unbelievable there. The people there were unbelievable, and we took a lot of pictures. It was a great reception.”

Q:&nbsp;When you speak tomorrow, is it something you’re going to plan or let it come from the heart?

REID:&nbsp;“I normally let it go and talk from the heart. That’s how I roll.”

Q:&nbsp;You say you like to let your players personalities show and guys like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, do you ever have to step back and hope they don’t say anything out of line?

REID:&nbsp;“Listen, I’m around them all the time&nbsp;(laughter). I’ve dang near heard all of it. We’ll see what goes. I’m sure they’ll let their personalities show. Especially the second one you mentioned there.”

Q:&nbsp;Going into the offseason, how do you keep guys reeled in even with all the accolades?

REID:&nbsp;“We talked about that. That’s one of the things we talked about. They’re going to have a lot of opportunities in the short way but also understand what feeds the family and that’s this job here. Enjoy that, the other part of being a champion. On the other hand, you better get yourself right to play this game. There’s a fine line right there, you know, of doing it the right way and doing it the halfway. Don’t neglect the part that is the most important part of your profession, or your professional life at least.”

Q:&nbsp;Can you speak to what it’s like with Patrick to have essentially 50 bad minutes and then 10 straight minutes of good in a Super Bowl?

REID:&nbsp;“That’s what makes him a great player. It’s just one more thing that you’ve had a chance to see in his young career here. It wasn’t all pretty. It wasn’t all the way it was drawn up and all this, but he kept firing. He didn’t get down and a lot of the guys around him didn’t get down. I’ll tell you the same thing on the defensive side with Tyrann (Mathieu, the same deal. Frank Clark and those guys, they didn’t let things, and (Terrell) Suggs, those guys all stayed positive. We felt like if we pulled it together, we’d be ok. I think the great part of the game, when you go back and look at it even though might it just say the fourth quarter but part of the fourth quarter was field position, a great job by the special teams. The defense, stepping up and getting the stops they did and the offense getting on a roll where they were unstoppable there. That’s this team. That’s their mindset. They never give up. They work hard and that’s what you get.”

Q:&nbsp;I know it’s a luxury to have Mitchell Schwartz, but what is it like for him to not give up a sack in the post season and for his play to get better as the stage just got bigger?

REID:&nbsp;“We have a ton of respect for him here and all that he does. That’s what’s made him so good with his stop here in Kansas City. He’s a big part of this thing and why we’ve had success. It doesn’t surprise me at all. That’s just how he’s wired. He’s a brilliant guy and loves to play the game.”

Q:&nbsp;You don’t make things about yourself but now that you have won a Super Bowl, is it freeing to accomplish what so many people around the league have said about you?

REID:&nbsp;“I mean I really don’t worry about those things. I didn’t before Sunday and I probably won't after Sunday. I think we all try to do our best, I’m no different. I try to do the best I possibly can at the job I’m presented. You can’t do anything more than that if you exhaust that part of that. That part doesn’t change, and I’ll keep doing that. With that, I also respect that it’s a team sport and it’s not about one guy at all. I learned that when I played offensive line, as you know. It takes five guys to dance the dance and you have to be doing it the right way. It’s not about one guy there and you learn real quick that it’s about a team.”

Clark (Hunt, obviously, following in his father's footsteps, but then even taking it up a notch and keeping it as one of the top organizations, and now the top organization, in the National Football League. The entire organization, and the job that everybody did, there are so many people that don't get recognized throughout the building. It was great to see them and the smiles on their faces for all of the hard work that they put in. The coaches and players, my hat goes off to them for the effort that they've put in and the resiliency they've had throughout the year. Those highs and these lows throughout a season, they powered through those. They never asked why. They were just so unsung that way. From a coach's standpoint, a real pleasure to work with. All-in-all, a good day. Love standing here with this result. It's a beautiful thing for a lot of people. Anyways, time's yours."Q:&nbsp;Have you gone back and watched the game yet?REID:&nbsp;"No. Today, I got in early and worked – I try to give the coaches and the players an offseason calendar, so that they know where they're going and what to expect for the next however many months. That takes a little bit of time. (Senior Assistant to the Head Coach) Porter (Ellett) and myself did that. Didn't have time to look at the game. I will, but I haven't had a chance to look at it. Then, we met with the players. Met with every player and talked to them. They had their exit physicals and then we got them out of here – until tomorrow."Q:&nbsp;How different was it conducting those exit interviews after a Super Bowl win, compared to past seasons when those interviews were conducted following a loss?REID:&nbsp;"It's positive. Listen, there are challenges ahead. The fact that once you're there, you want to go again, how do you go about that when expectations are extremely high? At the same time, enjoying what you've accomplished. There's a fine balance there. We talked about that, what each person needed to do to up their game and what they did well. Everybody was positive, to answer your question in a roundabout way – which this team has been. They've been very humble that way."Q:&nbsp;Prior to the game, did you know what the message that you wanted to convey to the team today was going to be, whether you won or lost the game?REID:&nbsp;"No. I didn't plan it either way. I know this sounds redundant here, but I go in, focus in and put all of my energy into what it is going to take to win the game. My coaches do the same thing and the players do the same thing. Then, you go from the emotion of it after that. Like I said, I got in early, so I had some time before I met with them today to think through everything. I knew what I wanted when I got up there. Didn't sound too foolish, right? Again, there are challenges. You have to remain humble and work hard. Those are the primary things. That's what this team did. You have to be able to do that even after you kiss the Lombardi Trophy?"Q:&nbsp;How soon did the turn to next season click with you, or has that not happened yet?REID:&nbsp;"I ended up saying it right afterwards, so I guess it clicked in pretty quick. Once you've been there and experienced it, you want to go back. I was lucky enough, when I was younger and coaching in Green Bay, that I went to a couple of these. It's great when you win. But there's an urgency that you feel to get back. You have to step back and relax for a minute, and then it's time to go. You'll be everybody's best game when you win that."Q:&nbsp;When you were an assistant with the Packers, what do you remember the offseason being like after winning the Super Bowl, before ultimately losing in the Super Bowl the next season?REID:&nbsp;"We lost a couple of the leaders on our team. That was one thing. We got banged up a little bit, that was another thing. We played a good team. We were favored in the game. We went up immediately, on the first drive, and then we weren't able to hold the lead."Q:&nbsp;What was the actual offseason like before that season?REID:&nbsp;"It's a tough road. That's a tough road. It's tough to get there anyways. It takes a special mindset to get there."Q:&nbsp;You're answering from a team standpoint. In your perspective, how is this offseason going to be different for you personally?REID:&nbsp;"I don't know that, right?&nbsp;(laughter)&nbsp;I know that I'm going to work hard. I'm in this building a lot, unlike the players that are out there among everybody. I think it is a lot easier for me or one of the coaches to stay focused because we spend so much time here. That part won't change. I'm not going to change. I've been doing it a long time. I'm not going to change that part."Q:&nbsp;You've mentioned about how your mentors belong in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Why is that honor so important for you? What's so special about achieving that?REID:&nbsp;"My mind doesn't go there. I'm humbled by all of that stuff, but that's not where I go. Whether we win or lose, I don't think of it that way. I always tell you that each team has its own personality and you work with that – that's the part that I enjoy, watching teams grow and the relationships that you develop. I don't think much past that about what goes in the future. That's out of my hands. I try to control what I can control, and that's trying to get us to be better as a team."Q:&nbsp;In October of 2015, you saw the city celebrate the Royals and their parade, what do you remember of that spectacle?REID:&nbsp;“It was unbelievable. Brett Veach and I joke about this all the time, but we go to Philadelphia and boom, Philly wins it. We come here and boom, the Royals win it and I’m going dog gone, let’s go (laughter). What a celebration. It was phenomenal. I can’t wait until tomorrow. I know it’s going to be cold and all that but your juices are going and everybody in the city going, I mean you’re talking over a million people. The schools are closed and business are closed. Let’s go. Let’s enjoy it. It took us 50 years to get here, let’s go. Let’s go. Keep the city intact&nbsp;(laughter). Let’s not ruin what we got but let’s enjoy the heck out of it.”Q:&nbsp;You went to Q39 last night, what was the reaction by people with you being back in Kansas City for the first time as a champion?REID:&nbsp;“There’s not a barbeque place first of all that I don’t like here. I mean I haven’t met one burnt end or rib that I haven’t liked. Listen, we went to Q39 and I had a craving for burnt ends, I wasn’t joking. I didn’t want my wife or myself cooking last night so my daughter, my sister-in-law and my wife and I went to Q39. We got some burnt ends and straws, you know those onion straws, a little mac and cheese and a diet coke to chase it. The fans were unbelievable there. The people there were unbelievable, and we took a lot of pictures. It was a great reception.”Q:&nbsp;When you speak tomorrow, is it something you’re going to plan or let it come from the heart?REID:&nbsp;“I normally let it go and talk from the heart. The Blue Dragons hope that one-point road victory is the spark they need to make a strong stretch run, which starts on Wednesday night at Northwest Tech.

Tipoff for the second meeting of the season between Hutchinson and Northwest Tech is 8:30 p.m. (CT) at Max Jones Fieldhouse in Goodland, Kansas.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) at 8:20 p.m. with Glen Grunwald (play-by-play) and Steve Carpenter (color) calling the action. Hutchinson starts the second time through the Jayhawk West with the Mavericks. The Blue Dragons won an 88-79 decision over Northwest Tech on January 15 at the Sports Arena.

Northwest Tech snapped a 13-game losing streak and earned its first Jayhawk West victory of the season on Saturday after a 106-103 win in overtime against Dodge City to improve to 3-18. Six Mavericks scored in double figures led by Pierles Brown's 22 points. Joshua Robinson added 19 as Northwest Tech nailed a season-high-tying 12 3-pointers and shot just shy of 50 percent against the Conquistadors for the game.

The Mavericks had a big shooting game against Hutchinson in the first meeting of the season. Northwest Tech shot 45.7 percent with nine 3-pointers in Hutchinson's nine-point win. Bryan Phillips had 20 points and C.J. Rosser had 17 points with four 3-pointers for Tech in the first meeting with Hutchinson.

UNDATED (AP) — The Super Bowl might have gone San Francisco's way if only 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan had followed Bill Belichick's lead and copied Vic Fangio's blueprints. The Patriots throttled the high-scoring Rams last year when Belichick copied the game plan Fangio had used as Chicago's defensive coordinator in a December victory over the Rams. The Chiefs swept Fangio's Denver Broncos this season but Fangio had the right idea when he took a point off the board and went for two after a Kansas City penalty. That decision backfired but it showed how you have to be aggressive when facing Patrick Mahomes.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs returned to Kansas City on Monday as fans celebrated their Super Bowl championship.

Coach Andy Reid, carrying the Super Bowl trophy, led the team off its plane Monday afternoon before they boarded a bus caravan to return to Arrowhead Stadium. Fans were discouraged from meeting the Chiefs at the airport. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was not with his teammates because he flew to Disney World in Orlando, Florida, to lead a Super Bowl celebration parade as part of his duties as MVP.

A parade through downtown Kansas City, Missouri, is set for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a rally at Union Station. Several schools in the area canceled Wednesday’s classes, and the Kansas Legislature canceled that day’s session. Officials announced the celebration Sunday night, shortly after the Chiefs defeated San Francisco 31-20.

The celebration started before the game, with an estimated 20,000 people showing up at the Power &amp; Light District in downtown Kansas City to watch the Super Bowl on a massive screen. Police said Monday 14 people were arrested and 45 were ejected from the entertainment district, and fire officials responded to 24 medical incidents. The Westport entertainment district also was packed and police reported several disturbances, but none were serious.

One man died when he tried to light commercial-grade fireworks in an improvised mortar and one of them exploded shortly after the game ended, police said in a statement. No other information was released.

Officers also will be following up on 163 reports of celebratory gunfire from 5:30 p.m. Sunday to early Monday, police said.

A newly installed sign inside Union Station proclaimed the Chiefs “World Champions!” Among those lining up to take a picture Monday were Mark and Karie Teetor, of the St. Louis area, who described a scene of pandemonium and dancing as they watched the game with friends.

“I was crying pretty much,” Karie Teetor said.

Her husband said he was just happy to see the Chiefs in the Super Bowl after a 50-year drought.

“To win is icing on the cake,” he added.

The city installed generators and a temporary cellphone tower near the site of the rally, while area businesses made plans to close or operate on a reduced schedule.

At Children’s Mercy Kansas City, the emergency room at the main downtown campus will be open , but appointments and some surgeries were being rescheduled or moved.

When the Royals won the World Series in 2015, an estimated 800,000 people flocked to the victory parade, shattering expectations in a city with a population of about 470,000 and a metropolitan area of about 2 million. Cellphone towers were overwhelmed by the throngs, and buses couldn’t get through.

City spokesman Chris Hernandez offered no specifics on the expected crowd size for the Chiefs’ celebration, saying only that “we are prepared for a massive crowd of fans wearing red and celebrating a Super Bowl victory that’s been 50 years in the making. So please dress warmly and come downtown to enjoy a family-friendly celebration.”

Christie Bernard, 45, of the St. Louis suburb of St. Peters, brought her 12- and 19-year-old sons to Union Station for a picture Monday. She said her husband — a “huge, huge Chiefs fan” — died unexpectedly a few months ago.

“We wished he could have seen it. But we feel like he helped them out a little bit last night. We kind of feel like that fourth quarter, he knew that they needed some help, so he gave them a little boost,” she said of the Chiefs’ come-from-behind win.
