For the fifth time in eight games this season, the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team will square off against an offense averaging better than 90 points per game.

Wednesday's KJCCC opponent, the No. 23 Cowley Tigers, know how to score, and then some.

The Tigers have the No. 1 offense in the Jayhawk Conference and the No. 6 scoring offense in the NJCAA at 102.1 points per game.

Tipoff for Wednesday's game at Scott Auditorium is 7:30 p.m.

Cowley (5-3, 5-1) has scored 100 or more points four times, including a staggering 143 points in a 143-104 win on Saturday against No. 16 Dodge City. Cowley hit a school-record 25 3-pointers and tied the single-game scoring records in that game.

The Blue Dragons (5-2, 4-2) have reeled off three-straight wins, doing so with an efficient offense and a much-improved defense.

In victories over Cloud County, Independence and Allen, Hutchinson is averaging only 77.3 points per game, but is shooting 52.2 percent from the field and has a 43.0-29.3 rebounding advantage per game. Defensively, the Dragons are allowing 63.7 points per game and 37.6 percent shooting.

The Tigers won a pair of games over the Blue Dragons last season, winning 84-83 in Arkansas City in January. Cowley then broke open a tight Region VI Tournament quarterfinal game with the Dragons in Dodge City, dominating the final 10 minutes for a 110-91 victory, ending Hutchinson's season.

Hutchinson brings the league's second-best scoring defense - also ranked No. 12 in the NJCAA - at 53.4 points per game allowed. The Blue Dragons are ranked third in both field-goal defense (32.0 percent) and 3-point defense (24.8 percent). The Dragons force an average of 24.5 turnovers per game.

Over its last three games, all wins, Cowley is averaging 94.6 points per game, shooting 52.9 percent overall and 38.9 percent from distance with 40 made 3-pointers over that stretch.

The Blue Dragons last time out defeated Allen 80-49 to move to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the Jayhawk West. The Dragons are looking for their first road victory of 2021, dropping road contests at Butler and Independence in each of the past two Wednesdays. The Tigers blew a 48-35 lead following a dominant start to the second half. Justin Kier led Georgia with 16 points. The Bulldogs had lost two in a row, each to ranked teams. Camara's three-point play with 4:55 left broke a 62-all tie, launching an 18-8 run to end the game. Kobe Brown led the Tigers with a career-high 21 points.&nbsp;

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The family of a 5-year-old girl left in a coma following a crash involving Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid says the girl is now awake. The news was delivered Monday in a post on the GoFundMe page for Ariel Young. The girl has been hospitalized since the Feb. 4 crash. Reid is head coach Andy Reid's son. Britt Reid was initially placed on administrative leave following the multi-vehicle crash. He's no longer employed by the team. Police said the crash happened near the team's training complex next to Arrowhead Stadium when Reid's truck slammed into two cars on the side of the road. Police say Reid admitted to having "two or three drinks" before the crash.

WACO, Texas (AP) — No. 2 Baylor is set to resume the season Feb. 23 at home against Iowa State following a six-game hiatus that started because of COVID-19 protocols. The Big 12 says Saturday's home game against Oklahoma State was postponed. The conference didn't specify whether the postponement was over COVID-19 issues or winter weather affecting Texas. Baylor hasn't played since matching the best start in school history at 17-0 with an 83-69 win over No. 12 Texas on Feb. 2.&nbsp;

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Aaron Wiggins had 21 points and matched a season-high with 11 rebounds, leading Maryland to a 64-50 victory over Nebraska in the first of back-to-back games between the teams. Maryland was previously scheduled to host Nebraska on Jan. 16, but the game was postponed due to health and safety protocols within the Cornhusker program. The Terrapins will host the rematch. The game was tied at 44 midway through the second half. Wiggins scored 12 points as the Terrapins closed on a 20-6 run. Teddy Allen scored 18 points and Dalano Banton had 10 for Nebraska (5-13, 1-10).&nbsp;

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Cade Cunningham had 21 points, five rebounds and seven assists, Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe added 17 points and Oklahoma State closed on a 9-0 run to beat Iowa State 76-58. Oklahoma State had its lead trimmed to 53-47 with 11:43 remaining on Rasir Bolton's three-point play. But Iowa State would only make one more field goal the rest of the way — another three-point play by Bolton at 5:57. Cunningham and Kalib Boone combined to made 14 of 20 field goals for Oklahoma State, while Iowa State was held to 19-of-57 shooting (33.3%). Jalen Coleman-Lands scored 17 points for Iowa State.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) — Eric Reed Jr. had a season-high 22 points and Southeast Missouri defeated Austin Peay 86-81 in overtime. &nbsp;Reed made a 3-pointer, Nygal Russell scored on a dunk and Nana Akenten made two free throws as the Redhawks ended the extra period on a 7-3 surge. Chris Harris had 14 points and six assists for Southeast Missouri (8-14, 6-10 Ohio Valley Conference). Darrious Agnew added 12 points, and his 3-pointer with three seconds left forced overtime tied at 73. Terry Taylor had 29 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks for the Governors (13-9, 9-7). Reginald Gee scored a season-high 21 points.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Jordan Goodwin recorded 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead Saint Louis to a 78-57 win over La Salle. Javonte Perkins had 19 points for Saint Louis (11-3, 4-2 Atlantic 10 Conference), which earned its fourth straight victory. Fred Thatch Jr. added 12 points. Jhamir Brickus scored a season-high 22 points for the Explorers (8-13, 5-9). Jack Clark added 13 points and six rebounds.

UNDATED (AP) — Nikola Jokic (nih-KOH'-lah YOH'-kihch) registered his third 40-point game of the season, but it wasn't enough for the Denver Nuggets.

The Nuggets' three-game winning streak is over after they wasted Jokic's 43 points in a 112-99 loss at Boston. Jaylen Brown had 27 points and eight assists for the Celtics, who turned 17 turnovers into 23 points and led by 15 in the first half.

Jayson Tatum added 21 points and eight assists as Boston bounced back following two anemic performances in back-to-back losses to Detroit and Washington.

— Brooklyn picked up its fourth win in a row by turning a 24-point deficit into a 128-124 decision over the Suns. James Harden scored 38 points and Joe Harris added 22 as the Nets overcame the absences of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving due to injuries. Harden's 3-pointer with 31 seconds left gave the Nets their first lead of the game at 126-124. 

— Damian Lillard scored 12 of his 31 points in the final 4:11 to help the Trail Blazers pick up their fifth consecutive victory, 115-104 at Oklahoma City. Portland squandered a 24-point lead in the second half, then regained control as Lillard made all four of his 3-point tries during the closing run while playing with five fouls. 

— Fred VanVleet dropped in 33 points and Pascal Siakam (see-A'-kam) added 23 in the Raptors' 124-113 win at Milwaukee. The Bucks lost their fourth in a row despite getting 34 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists from Giannis Antetokounmpo (YAH'-nihs an-teh-toh-KOON'-poh). 

— Zion Williamson dominated the inside scoring 31 points on 13 of 16 shooting as the Pelicans hammered the Grizzlies, 144-113 to end a three-game losing streak. Josh Hart finished with a season-high 27 points for New Orleans, while Brandon Ingram had 22 points. 

— The Pistons-Mavericks game in Dallas was postponed as the state of Texas deals with with icy conditions for travel and widespread power outages. 

UNDATED (AP) — The NBA says the San Antonio Spurs are dealing with a coronavirus outbreak among four players, putting their schedule on hold until the middle of next week at the earliest. 

The league has postponed five more games: the next three for the Spurs as well as the next two for the Charlotte Hornets while contact tracing is completed. 

— Knicks center Mitchell Robinson will be out until after next month's All-Star break after having surgery Tuesday to repair a broken right hand. Robinson was hurt last Friday in Washington when he banged his hand trying to block a shot. Robinson shot an NBA-record 74.2% from the field last season and was leading the league at 66% when he was hurt.

— Timberwolves point guard D'Angelo Russell will undergo arthroscopic surgery Wednesday on his left knee and be sidelined for four to six weeks. Russell missed the last three games due to soreness in his left leg and was diagnosed with a loose body in his knee. He is averaging 19.3 points and 5.1 assists this season on 42.6% shooting.

— The mayor of Atlanta is raising concerns about the notion of fans coming to the city for the NBA All-Star Game and skills competitions on March 7. Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms says, "People should not travel to Atlanta to party."

— The Bucks will start having a limited number of spectators at their home games beginning tonight against the Raptors. They'll have 250 spectators Tuesday, 500 for Thursday's game with Toronto and 750 for Friday's game with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Members of the general public will be allowed to attend games starting Sunday when the Bucks face the Kings.

UNDATED (AP) — Illinois had a lapse in the second half before extending their winning streak.

The fifth-ranked Illini picked up their sixth straight win by getting past Northwestern, 73-66. 

The Illini shot 60% from the field in taking a 38-26 halftime lead. The Wildcats got within two before suffering their 12th straight loss.

Kofi Cockburn had 17 points and 17 rebounds for his 14th double-double of the season. Ayo Dosunmu chipped in 13 points and helped the Illini open the game with a 25-7 run.

Davonte Davis led four Arkansas players in double figures with 18 points, propelling the No. 24 Razorbacks over Florida 75-64. Arkansas blew a 15-point lead before earning its seventh straight win and first since cracking the top-25.

UNDATED (AP) — Second-ranked Baylor is set to resume its schedule next Tuesday following a six-game hiatus that started because of COVID-19 protocols.

The Bears are scheduled to play Iowa State at home after the Big 12 announced the postponement of Saturday's home game against Oklahoma State. The conference didn't specify whether the Oklahoma State postponement was over COVID-19 issues or the wintry weather affecting Texas.

— The Boston College-Georgia Tech game scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed. The Atlantic Coast Conference said the postponement was due to the continued quarantines and contact tracing within the Boston College program.

UNDATED (AP) — The Washington Capitals ended a pair of streaks on Wednesday.

The Capitals' 3-1 victory at Pittsburgh halts Washington's four-game skid and stops the Penguins' season-opening home winning streak at five games. Conor Sheary and Jakub Vrana scored in the second period to support Vitek Vanecek (VEE'-tehk VAN'-ih-vhehk), who made 26 saves in his 11th straight start.

Tristan Jarry made 39 saves for the Penguins, who scored six times against the Capitals on Sunday.

— The Avalanche pulled out a 3-2 win over the Golden Knights on Nazem Kadri's (NA'-zehm KA'-dreez) goal with 41 seconds left in regulation. Nathan MacKinnon and Brandon Saad also scored for Colorado, while Philip Grubauer stopped 27 shots.

— Ilya Sorokin's first NHL victory was a shutout as he made 20 saves in the Islanders' 3-0 win over the Sabres. Anders Lee scored twice, including a last-second empty netter, to help the Isles improve to 5-0-3 in their last eight games.

— The Rangers absorbed their fourth straight loss as Yegor Sharangovich (yeh-GOHR' shar-ehn-GOH'-vihch) and Nicholas Merkley scored in the third period of the Devils' 5-2 victory against their neighbors. Pavel Zacha (ZAH'-kah), Will Butcher and Mikhail Maltsev also scored for New Jersey, which returned to action for the first time this month after an extended pause due to a COVID-19 outbreak. 

— The Kings earned a 4-0 win over the Wild as Jonathan Quick handled 28 shots in his first shutout of the season and 53rd of his career. Jaret Anderson-Dolan had a goal and an assist against Minnesota, which was playing for the first time since Feb. 2 due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Flyers returned to practice in limited quantities after a weeklong shutdown because of the virus.

The Flyers had 16 players on the ice for yesterday's workout. General manager Chuck Fletcher expects eight more to be cleared for practice today.

Philadelphia has seven players on the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list. 

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Karolina Muchova (moo-KOH'-vah) has moved into the semifinals of the Australian Open after a surprising win over the world's No. 1 player.

Muchova took an injury timeout early in the second set and rallied to a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Ash Barty. Her comeback win ended Barty's bid to become the first Australian woman to win the title in Melbourne since Chris O'Neil in 1978. 

Muchova's opponent Thursday will be the winner of the last quarterfinal, an all-American matchup between No. 22-seeded Jennifer Brady and unseeded Jessica Pegula.

Barty dropped just six points in taking a 5-0 lead in the opening set.

Next up for Muchova is Jennifer Brady, who has reached her second Grand Slam semifinal in a row by beating fellow American and good friend Jessica Pegula (peh-GOO'-luh), 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Brady struggled at times and gave her racket an angry toss midway through the second set before rallying.

On the men's side, No. 4-seed Daniil (dah-NIHL') Medvedev moved into the third Grand Slam semifinal of his career and pushed his current winning streak to 19 matches by beating Andrey Rublev, 7-5, 6-3, 6-2. The stifling hot weather left Medvedev needing a massage for cramping in his left thigh before he could stand up for his on-court TV interview.

Herrera gets an invite to spring training

UNDATED (AP) — Former All-Star center fielder Odubel (oh-DOO'-bul) Herrera was among 31 non-roster players the Philadelphia Phillies have invited to spring training. 

Herrera, hasn't played for the Phillies since 2019 when he was suspended under Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy. The charges against Herrera were dismissed but he was removed from the team's 40-man roster last year and wasn't part of the 60-player pool for the shortened season. 

Catcher Jeff Mathis signed a minor league deal with the Phils on Tuesday and will join the major league camp. Mathis batted .161 in 24 games for Texas last season. 

— The Athletics finalized their one-year, $3.5 million package with Mike Fiers (FY'-urz) after he passed his physical. Fiers earned a team-high six wins for Oakland last season after going 15-4 with a no-hitter and a 21-start unbeaten stretch in 2019.

— The Braves beat Dansby Swanson in salary arbitration, and the shortstop will earn $6 million rather than his request for $6.7 million. The 27-year-old Swanson hit .274 with 10 homers and 35 RBIs last season in an NL-high 237 at-bats. 

— The Red Sox have signed Japanese right-hander Hirokazu Sawamura to a two-year contract. Sawamura joins the Red Sox after a 10-year stint in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball league. He went 48-52 with 75 saves, four shutouts, a 2.77 ERA and 790 strikeouts in 352 appearances, including 88 starts.

— The Mets have sent right-hander Corey Oswalt to the minors and released reliever Brad Brach (brahk). Oswalt cleared waivers and was assigned outright to Triple-A Syracuse. Brach was designated for assignment last week and is guaranteed a salary of just over $2 million this year. 

— The Indians have signed veteran reliever Blake Parker to a minor league contract with an invitation to training camp. The 35-year-old Parker spent the past two seasons with the Phillies and was 3-0 with a 2.81 ERA in 14 games for Philly last year.

— Bullpen coach Matt Wise will serve as the Los Angeles Angels' interim pitching coach. He replaces Mickey Callaway, who is being investigated by Major League Baseball over allegations of inappropriate behavior toward several women who work in sports media. 

UNDATED (AP) — Miami Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders has signed a $22 million contract extension through 2026. The deal includes $10 million guaranteed.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa is keeping its women's swimming and diving program after it had been among four sports the school planned to eliminate due to budget concerns brought on by the pandemic. Members of the women's swimming and diving team team filed a legal complaint against the school in September that argued eliminating their program violated a landmark gender equity law. School officials announced in August they were dropping men's and women's swimming and diving, men's gymnastics and men's tennis at the end of their 2020-21 seasons. Iowa still plans to eliminate those sports, other than women's swimming and diving.

Spurs-Pistons game postponed by coronavirus-related issues

UNDATED (AP) — Tuesday's game between the San Antonio Spurs and Detroit Pistons has been postponed, marking the second time this month that the NBA has called off a game because of coronavirus-related issues. 

The NBA announced Monday that the Spurs have someone who tested positive. That, combined with contact tracing, meant they would not have the league minimum of eight players available to begin a game. 

The Spurs were without guard Quinndary Weatherspoon for Sunday's game against Charlotte because of the league's COVID-19 protocols. Weatherspoon had played 10 minutes on Friday in Atlanta, then was flagged by the protocols over the weekend.

CLEVELAND (AP) — A person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press that the Cleveland Cavaliers will make center Andre Drummond inactive for upcoming games as they pursue a trade for him. Drummond did not dress for Sunday night's game against the Los Angeles Clippers and will continue to stay on the sideline. The person who spoke to the AP says there is "nothing imminent" on the trade front. The Cavs said Sunday that Drummond was out for "rest." The Cavs have lost seven straight games and 11 of 13. Drummond was a two-time All-Star with Detroit before he traded to Cleveland last year.

— Stephen Curry scored 36 points in three quarters and the Golden State Warriors routed the Cleveland Cavaliers 129-98. Draymond Green tied his career high with 16 assists as the Warriors got double-figure scoring from six players and sent the Cavaliers to their eighth straight loss. — The Dallas Stars have postponed their home game against the Nashville Predators after a request from city officials to not play because of the impact extreme winter weather has had on the area. The announcement came only about a half-hour before Monday's game was scheduled to begin. There are significant power outages throughout the state. The NHL says the decision to postpone was made by the teams, on-ice officials and the league upon the advice of Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson. No makeup date was announced. 

Former NFL receiver Vincent Jackson found dead in hotel room

BRANDON, Fla. (AP)— Former NFL wide receiver Vincent Jackson has been found dead at a Florida hotel room, days after authorities spoke with him as part of a welfare check. There were no signs of trauma and the medical examiner's office was looking into a cause of death. Sheriff's officials said his family initially reported Jackson missing on Wednesday. Deputies tracked him down to a hotel in Brandon two days later, spoke with him and canceled the missing persons case. Jackson was then found dead Monday morning in his hotel room by a housekeeper. Jackson played for the San Diego Chargers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was selected to the Pro Bowl three times.

MIAMI (AP) — Small crowds at Marlins Park will be back this season. The attendance-challenged Marlins plan to allow fans at home games, although crowds will initially be limited to about 25% of capacity. That would mean a maximum of about 9,300 spectators in the 37,446-seat ballpark. 

The Marlins, like the rest of MLB, didn't allow fans during the 2020 regular season because of the coronavirus pandemic. Limited crowds were permitted for the postseason. In Derek Jeter's first two years as CEO, the Marlins averaged about 10,000 fans in 2018 and 2019, worst in the majors. 

Indians finalize Billy Hamilton's minor league contract

CLEVELAND (AP) — Billy Hamilton has joined the Indians' cluttered outfield competition. The free agent signed Monday with Cleveland, which will give Hamilton a chance to win a roster spot during training camp. 

Hamilton agreed to terms on a minor league deal with a spring invitation last week. The contract was finalized after he completed medical tests. 

Hamilton spent last season with the Cubs and Mets. He gives the Indians another option as they try to fix an outfield that hasn't produced much in recent seasons. The 30-year-old Hamilton has 305 career steals over eight seasons with Cincinnati, Kansas City, Atlanta, Chicago and New York.

— Catcher Austin Barnes and the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers avoided a salary arbitration hearing when they agreed to a $4.3 million, two-year contract. Barnes gets a $300,000 signing bonus and salaries of $1.5 million this year and $2.5 million in 2022. The 31-year-old hit .244 with one homer and nine RBIs in 86 bats over 29 games during the pandemic-shortened season and batted .325 in the postseason with one homer and three RBIs. 

— The Colorado Rockies will be taking a look at another first baseman after signing C.J. Cron to a minor-league deal with an invite to major league spring training. Cron, 31, hit .190 with four homers and eight RBIs in 13 games with Detroit last season. He was the 17th overall pick by the Los Angeles Angels in 2011 and has appeared in 686 career games with the Angels, Minnesota, Tampa Bay and the Tigers.

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Naomi Osaka has advanced to a potential semifinal showdown against Serena Williams at the Australian Open. Michael Jordan gives $10M for North Carolina health clinics

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — A health care system announced Monday that basketball legend Michael Jordan is donating $10 million to launch two medical clinics in underserved communities near his North Carolina hometown. 

Novant Health says the clinics are set to open in New Hanover County in early 2022. News outlets report that the gift marks one of the largest ever from the Basketball Hall of Fame athlete. Jordan previously gave $7 million to open clinics in Charlotte in 2019 and 2020.

Jordan grew up in Wilmington before going on to play at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill then later winning six championships with the Chicago Bulls. 

Sydney police say 1996 Olympic swimmer ran drug syndicate

SYDNEY (AP) — Former Olympic swimmer Scott Miller is in custody and charged with drug trafficking after Australian police seized methamphetamine valued at 2 million Australian dollars ($1.6 million) and accused him of directing a criminal syndicate. 

Police arrested 45-year-old Miller and a 47-year-old man, who has not been named, at their Sydney homes after finding methylamphetamine concealed in eight candles. 

The two men were allegedly distributing drugs from Sydney that were bound for regional New South Wales state. Miller won a silver medal in the 100-meter butterfly at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

LAWRENCE—The University of Kansas Athletic Director Jeff Long issued a statement&nbsp; Monday following the weekend DUI arrest of head baseball coach Ritch Price.

"After meeting with Coach Price this afternoon, I informed him that he has been suspended for the next two weeks from all team related activities as a result of his DUI arrest this past weekend."

"I also met with the team to inform them of this decision. While I have tremendous respect and appreciation for Coach Price and the manner in which he conducts our baseball program, as well as the leadership he provides our young men, in this instance he failed to meet our expectations. Coach Price expressed to me his sincere remorse for putting himself in that position and the negative impact it will have on the program. I am confident he will learn from this dangerous lapse in judgement and so will his current and future baseball student-athletes.”

In a separate statement, Price said, “I would like to apologize to my family, players, KU administration, alumni, coaches, staff, as well as our donors for embarrassing them, the University of Kansas, our entire athletic department and myself."

 As I shared with my team, the consequences from my actions on Saturday night could have jeopardized members of our community and was irresponsible. I have always held myself to the same high standards as those of my players and take full responsibility for my actions. I will do everything in my power to ensure that this type of behavior will never happen again. I love the University of Kansas, our athletic department and baseball program. Through my actions moving forward, I hope to regain the trust of all Jayhawks.”

Price joined the KU baseball program in 2002 and became head coach the following year. The team has won over 530 games during his time leading the Jayhawks.
