NEWTON, Kan. — A woman was critically hurt while trying to help after a car accident Saturday night in Newton.
According to a release from Newton Police, around 10:15 p.m. Saturday, officers and EMS were dispatched to an accident in the 1600 block of South Kansas Avenue, where a man driving was believed to have suffered a medical issue and lost control of his vehicle which hit a power pole and took down live wires.
A woman who stopped to help was hurt by debris that had been struck by another passing vehicle.
Police say the 40-year-old woman was taken to Wichita and as of Sunday evening, she was in critical but stable condition at Wesley Medical Center. The initial driver was taken to Newton Medical Center for treatment. There is no word on his condition, but police say they may have more information later.
The traffic signals at the intersection were out on Sunday until repairs could be made.
