One person hospitalized after home explosion in SW Kansas

FINNEY COUNTY —One person was injured after a home explosion in Garden City.

Just after 7p.m. on Saturday, the Garden City Fire Department was dispatched to the report of an explosion at 802 West Fair Street, Garden City, according to a media release.

Upon arrival, fire personnel found one home that had significant damage due to an explosion with a large debris field surrounding the site. One victim was treated and transported by Finney County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to St. Catherine Hospital.

Black Hills Energy was dispatched to the scene to shut off the gas supply in the affected area, and the City of Garden City Electric department was dispatched due to a downed power line.

The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s office was notified of the explosion and has been requested to assist with the investigation. No damage estimates are known at this time.

While the investigation is being completed, Fair Street is closed between 9th Street and 11th Street, and 10th Street will be closed between Fair and Hamline Streets.
