WICHITA, Kan. —Wichita State managed just two hits and was shutout in a 3-0 loss to UAB Friday night at Wilkins Stadium.

Wichita State (19-19, 10-9) saw its losing streak reach four in a row in a crucial conference series with only eight league games remaining this season.

An Addison Barnard double in the sixth and a Lainee Brown single in the seventh were the lone hits on the night for the home team.

Alison Cooper (5-7) settled in after giving up a pair of runs in the first and retired 12 straight Blazers at one point, but the lack of run support didn't help her cause. She finished the night allowing three runs on four hits and two walks in 5.2 innings, while striking out four. Lauren Howell struck out two and the Blazers had just one hit against her in 1.1 innings of relief.

UAB applied early pressure in the top of the first by putting its first two batters on base. After a sac bunt moved the runners into scoring position, the Blazers capitalized on a two-run triple down the right field line to go up 2-0.

An insurance run in the top of the sixth proved to be more than enough cushion for UAB.

Wichita State really threatened only twice with scoring opportunities on the night. The Shockers had two in scoring position in the bottom of the first with no outs and failed to score. Then in the sixth Barnard was left stranded at third following a double.
